Falling in Love With God Again

February is often called the month of love. We see reminders everywhere about romantic relationships, connection, and affection. But before we talk about loving others, Scripture calls us to examine something deeper: our love for God.

In Revelation 2:4, Jesus speaks a sobering word: “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” The church was active, committed, and serving, but their affection had cooled.

It is possible to be busy in life and even busy in church, yet drift in intimacy with God. This February, what if you made it your priority to fall in love with God again?

Here is how to deepen your relationship with Him.

1. Return to intentional time with Him

James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” Relationships grow with time. If your connection with God feels distant, ask yourself honestly: Have I created space for Him daily?

Start with ten consistent minutes of prayer and Scripture. Not rushed, not distracted. Just present. Love grows in proximity.

2. Speak to God honestly

Real relationships require honesty. God is not intimidated by your questions, struggles, or doubts. Psalm 62:8 says, “Pour out your heart before Him.” Intimacy deepens when we stop pretending and start surrendering.

Tell Him where you feel dry. Tell Him where you feel overwhelmed. Invite Him into the real places of your life.

3. Worship beyond Sunday

Worship is not just music. Worship is attention. Romans 12:1 calls us to present our lives as living sacrifices. Love for God becomes evident when we honor Him in daily decisions, private moments, and unseen obedience.

Play worship music during your commute. Pray while walking. Speak gratitude out loud. These small habits keep your heart tender toward Him.

4. Remove distractions that compete for affection

Love weakens when distractions multiply. Ask yourself what has been louder than God in this season. Social media, busyness, comparison, stress.

Sometimes falling in love again requires clearing space.

5. Stay connected to a healthy church

Your relationship with God is personal, but it is not meant to be isolated. Hebrews 10:25 encourages believers not to forsake gathering together. Being part of a healthy church strengthens your faith and keeps your love for God active.
