Why the Cross Still Matters in Your Life Today

As Easter season approaches, many people search for answers about the meaning of Good Friday, the purpose of the cross, and why Jesus had to die. In a world full of pain, confusion, and brokenness, the cross still stands as the clearest picture of God’s love and redemption.
Good Friday, observed on April 3 this year, marks the day Jesus gave His life for the sins of the world. It is a solemn day, but it is not a hopeless one. It reminds us that God’s greatest victory came through sacrifice.
In Romans 5:8, Scripture says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The cross is not just a symbol Christians wear. It is the center of our faith and the proof that God loves us enough to step into our suffering and save us.
Here is why the cross still matters today.
1. The cross proves God’s love is personal
Sometimes people believe God is distant, disappointed, or uninterested in their pain. But the cross tells a different story.
John 3:16 reminds us that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. The cross means you are not forgotten. You are deeply loved.
2. The cross deals with sin, not just symptoms
Many people want peace, joy, and healing, but the deepest issue in every life is sin. Jesus did not come only to improve behavior. He came to redeem hearts.
Colossians 2:14 says that Jesus wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us. Through the cross, guilt is removed and grace is offered.
3. The cross gives hope in suffering
Jesus understands sorrow, betrayal, pain, and rejection. Isaiah 53:3 calls Him “a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.”
Because He suffered, He is able to meet you in your suffering. The cross reminds us that pain is real, but it is not the end of the story.
4. The cross calls for a response
Luke 9:23 says, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
The cross is not only something to admire. It is something that calls us to discipleship, surrender, and a transformed life.
5. The cross leads to resurrection hope
Good Friday makes no sense without Easter Sunday. The cross and the resurrection belong together. Jesus died for our sins, but He rose so we could walk in new life.
At Transformation Christian Fellowship, we believe the message of the cross still changes lives today.
